CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack firefighters were called to a minor fire at a vacant home north of downtown Chilliwack over the weekend.

Firefighters were called to the intersection of Mallard Street and Victor Street at about 4:45 a.m. early Sunday morning, Nov. 16, for the report of a structure fire.

When firefighters arrived within minutes, they observed smoke showing from the home in the 9500 block of Victor Street.

The fire was knocked down by approximately 4:52 a.m., according to a social media post from Julie Hiscock, who monitors overnight scanner traffic.

According to a brief statement from Chilliwack Assistant Fire Chief Wade Meeres, firefighters responded to a minor fire in a vacant home. Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it spread.

Meeres said the fire does not appear to be accidential, and is currently being investigated by the Chilliwack Fire Department.

The home where the fire occurred has a for sale sign in its front yard.
