31-year-old man known to police threatens to shoot liquor store staff during robbery: Abbotsford PD
ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford say a 31-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to rob an Abbotsford liquor store on Montvue Avenue Sunday night by threatening to shoot them.
According to a statement from AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, patrol officers were called to the 2500 block of Montvue Avenue Sunday night at just after 7 p.m. for a reported robbery. Police learned that a 31-year-old known who is known to authorities entered a liquor store and attempted to leave without paying.
Sgt. Walker says the man confronted staff and threatened them by claiming he had an incendiary device and would shoot them. The suspect fled the area but was arrested a short distance away. Thankfully, no one was injured, Sgt. Walker said.
“Incidents like this are extremely concerning to AbbyPD. Violent crime creates fear and lasting trauma for those affected, and it puts both staff and the public at serious risk,” Sgt. Walker said. “Thanks to the swift and professional response of our officers, the suspect was safely taken into custody without anyone being harmed.”
