MLA organizes community rally after several ER shutdowns at Mission Memorial

MISSION — The MLA for Abbotsford-Mission is looking to send a message to government after half a dozen ER shutdowns at Mission Memorial Hospital this year.

On November 9, the hospital temporarily suspended its urgent care services due to a doctor shortage– the sixth time in 2025. As a result, MLA Reann Gasper is organizing a peaceful community assembly at Mission Memorial.

“Every single time those doors close, it’s the same story. Families stuck driving to Abbotsford or Maple Ridge, praying nothing gets worse on the way,” said Gasper. “That is not universal health care. And if you can’t count on the help when you need it, what is that?”

Gasper will be calling on provincial ministers to provide emergency funding to recruit and retain doctors and nurses, release a clear timeline and measurable benchmarks for 24-hour service and commit to weekly public reporting on staffing and closure risk.
