Male shoplifter pushes female employee to ground, causing extensive injuries to her skull: AbbyPD

ABBOTSFORD — A 38-year-old man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm after he allegedly pushed a store employee who confronted him for shoplifting Friday night in Abbotsford.

According to a statement from AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, AbbyPD patrol officers responded to a business in the 31900 block of South Fraser Way Friday night (Nov. 7) at just after 6 p.m., after a shoplifter was confronted by a store employee. During the incident, the suspect pushed the female staff member to the ground, causing her to strike her head, Sgt. Walker said. The suspect fled the area before police arrived.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old David Jaeggle, is known to police.

Sgt. Walker says patrol officers quickly located and arrested Jaeggle. He has since been formally charged with assault causing bodily harm. The store employee sustained significant injuries, including a skull fracture and a brain bleed. Jaeggle remains in custody pending a bail hearing today (Monday, Nov. 10).
