Chilliwack RCMP respond to assault with a weapon Monday morning

UPDATE, 11:52 A.M. MONDAY: RCMP Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill now says RCMP members are still trying to determine the identity of the suspect in this morning’s assault with a weapon.

“The victim and suspect are known to each other and the victim is not being very cooperative at this moment,” Sgt. Mulvihill told Fraser Valley Today in an email. “He has been taken to hospital and is receiving care for wounds to his upper body.”

CHILLIWACK — Mounties in Chilliwack have responded to an active incident on Margaret Avenue Monday morning involving an assault with a weapon.

According to a brief statement from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill, police were notified about an assault with a weapon not involving a firearm in the 46100 block of Margaret Avenue.

“Officers have located a victim and are providing emergency care while waiting for Emergency Health Services,” Sgt. Mulvihill said. “He is conscious and breathing.”

Police don’t have an immediate update on the suspect who committed the assault, though that it is subject to change, but are working to provide suspect information if it becomes available.

A medical aid call could be connected to this morning’s incident.

Chilliwack Fire Department Engine 1 was paged at approximately 9:25 a.m. Monday morning for the report of a 34-year-old individual who was attacked with a machete. Fire crews were called to the 46000 block of Mellard Avenue.

Chilliwack Fire Engine 1 radioed dispatch at 9:38 a.m. to say the patient who had been attacked by a machete was left in care of B.C. Ambulance Services personnel. Firefighters cleared from the scene at 9:38 a.m.
