Semi-truck driver arrested after driving the wrong way on Highway 17A: DeltaPD
DELTA — The Delta Police Department in B.C. has confirmed that the driver of a semi-truck who drove the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Highway 17A last week has been arrested.
According to a statement, Delta PD officers responded last week to reports of a semi-truck travelling the wrong way southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 17A. Due to coordinated efforts between the Delta PD and Delta Fire & Emergency Services, the situation was safely resolved and contained before anyone was injured.
Upon further investigation, the semi-truck driver stated he had missed his exit and attempted a U-turn. Police say that in light of the “significant risk to public safety and a “lack of awareness” demonstrated, the driver was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
To make matters worse for the public whose safety the driver endangered, personnel from the Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement division inspected the truck and determined it had multiple mechanical defects and was deemed not roadworthy.
