Mounties in Chilliwack report drop in property crime

Nov 6, 2025 | 6:29 AM

CHILLIWACK — Police in Chilliwack say there’s been a noticeable drop in property crime representing several categories the latter half of October.

In a social media post, Mounties say crime trends between October 19 and November 1 indicate theft from vehicles has dropped from 46 files down to 26 incidents.

Auto theft (6 incidents), break and enter at businesses (11 files), break and enter at homes (6) and bike thefts (6) are down as well.

Criminal activity continues to occur around Cottonwood Centre mall in Sardis and in the downtown Chilliwack vicinity, police said.

“We’ve seen a drop in property crime across several categories — thank you, Chilliwack, for staying alert and proactive!” Chilliwack RCMP wrote on Facebook.

Mounties are encouraging people who live in apartments to ensure the underground parking gate closes behind them and to keep strangers from following people into strata complexes.

While property crimes dipped the latter half of October, police in Chilliwack reported a “significant” rise in property crime across the city between Oct. 5-18.

During October 5-18, police logged the following incidents of property crimes:

• Theft from Vehicles: 46 files
• Auto theft: 8 files
• Break and enter – Business: 10 files
• Break and enter – Residence: 9 files
• Bike Theft: 11 files

Police are offering the following prevention tips:

• Always lock your vehicle and remove valuables from sight. Many thefts occurred from unlocked vehicles.
• Secure your bikes—especially in backyards and patios—and consider engraving them with identifying info.
• Specific areas are being targeted (Eastern Hillsides, Promontory, and Glendale Drive this reporting period), each for one night on separate nights. No area is immune.

In the meantime, the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP detachment says it will continue to monitor and deploy resources to high-crime areas, respond to community tips and target repeat offenders.

Chilliwack-area residents are invited to report suspicious activity by calling the Airport Road detachment at 604-792-4611, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
