No safety concerns after suspicious white cargo van spotted in Langley: RCMP
LANGLEY — Mounties in Langley say there are no ongoing safety concerns following investigations into reports about a suspicious white cargo van that had been seen in the Murrayville area of Langley.
According to a statement from B.C. RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Vanessa Munn, Langley received a report of a suspicious white cargo van on Tuesday, Oct. 21. After the report was received, information about the white cargo van began circulating on social media so as to generate community concern and prompt parents to caution their kids, as might be expected.
On Monday, October 27, police received a separate report that a white van followed a child, however no contact was attempted. Frontline members supported by the Vulnerable Persons Unit conducted investigations into the reports. Based on their findings, it is clear they are not connected and nothing criminal occurred.
“The sharing of information on social media and subsequent discussions likely increased community vigilance, so Langley RCMP wanted to ensure the public was updated that there are no current concerns related to a white van,” says Inspector Jeff Loeppky of the Langley RCMP. “We would also like to commend families and community partners for encouraging children to remain aware of their surroundings and for promptly reporting suspicious actively.”
