IIO concludes investigation after Abbotsford man suffered serious injuries during arrest
ABBOTSFORD — B.C.’s civilian watchdog has concluded its investigation into a Dec. 2024 incident in which an Abbotsford man sustained serious injuries while he was being taken into custody.
According to a statement, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC launched an investigation into the injury of a man while being arrested in Abbotsford in December 2024.
At about 8:10 p.m. on December 26, 2024, officers with the Abbotsford Police Department responded to calls regarding an alleged domestic dispute involving a man and woman. A caller said that the man and woman had gone into an apartment building located in the 2000 block of Eleanor Avenue, and it was learned a short time later that they had gone to separate units.
The man attempted to leave when police tried to speak to him, and he was arrested. The man sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury while being taken into custody.
