RCMP officer in stable condition at hospital after being struck head-on early Sunday in Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment says an RCMP officer remains in stable condition in the hospital after a serious two-vehicle crash on Vedder Road just north of Stevenson Road early Sunday morning.
According to a statement from RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill, a Chilliwack RCMP officer activated her emergency button after being involved in a serious two-vehicle collision on Vedder Road, just north of Stevenson Road, at 1:10 a.m. Sunday morning (Nov. 2).
Sgt. Mulvihill says the officer was travelling northbound in a fully marked 2021 Ford Explorer police vehicle when a southbound 2006 Lincoln Zephyr crossed into the northbound lanes and collided head on with the police SUV.
Police say witness statements taken at the scene suggest that speed and erratic driving by the Lincoln driver were contributing factors. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the collision, Sgt. Mulvihill said.
