COQUIHALLA HIGHWAY — Drivers are urged to take extra caution on the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt as Environment Canada forecasts strong winds and slick roads Saturday (Nov. 1).

The weather agency says a strong low-pressure system is set to pass through Southern B.C. during the afternoon, with southwest wind gusts expected to pick up to 90 kilometres an hour– or slightly stronger.

A second frontal system is also moving across the coast, bringing rainfall amounts of up to 50 millimetres before conditions ease to showers in the late afternoon.

“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas,” said Environment Canada. “Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas such as steep slopes, deforested areas or recent burn scars.”
