Snowfall warning in effect on Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt

HOPE — Winter is looming on the Coquihalla Highway this weekend.

A total of 15 to 20 centimetres of moderate to heavy snow is expected to fall on the highway from Hope to Merritt starting Saturday evening (Oct. 25).

Environment Canada says a Pacific low-pressure system will be moving across the southern interior in the evening, starting as light snow before intensifying overnight.

“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions,” said the weather agency. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”

Motorists are asked to use winter tires and chains, and to check road conditions before heading out.
