CHILLIWACK — Without comment at Tuesday’s meeting, Chilliwack councillors have signed off on a development permit for an already approved 24-unit housing project on Uplands Road in Promontory.

Councillors had previously voted on Sept. 16, 2025, to give first, second and third reading to a rezoning application for the 24-unit townhouse project at 46462 Uplands Road.

According to a city staff report, the Uplands property contains slopes greater than 20 per cent. The city’s Development Area Permit 5 requirement will ensure the development preserves Chilliwack’s hillside areas, in accordance with the city’s Official Community Plan.

Of note, the City of Chilliwack already approved the issuance of a development permit for geotechnical hazard investigation for the Uplands Road property. The rezoning application approved by council on Sept. 16 had been held at third reading pending issuance of the development permit, which council now approved yesterday (Tuesday, Oct. 21).

The property on Uplands Road is situated on a 1.19-acre (0.48-ha) parcel of land. Current plans call for the 24 townhouse units to be built in four separate buildings.

The final lot layout must adhere to city bylaws and include road dedication of 1.12 meters as well as urban frontage improvements like barrier curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and LED streetlighting along Uplands Road.

The property on Uplands Road is located in an area that has experienced ongoing redevelopment through construction of townhouses and single-family developments, according to a city staff report.
