Power restored after outage left over 1,200 in Chilliwack, Abbotsford without electricity Saturday night

UPDATE 9:52 P.M.: Power has been restored for most areas residents after an outage left 1,229 customers without electricity.

CHILLIWACK – A power outage has left over 1,200 BC Hydro customers between Chilliwack and Abbotsford without electricity Saturday night.

According to BC Hydro’s online outage dashboard, 1,229 customers lost power at approximately 8:14 p.m. Saturday evening.

BC Hydro attributes the outage to an equipment failure.

The affected areas include west of Lickman Road, north of No. 5 Road, and east of Lost Lake Road, encompassing parts of Greendale, Yarrow and Sumas Prairie.

Crews are on scene. There’s no estimate as to when power might be restored. BC Hydro’s website was last updated at 9:08 p.m.

It should be noted that Chilliwack Fire Department personnel were dispatched for some kind of incident near Hopedale Road and South Sumas Road Saturday evening. Scanner traffic referenced a possible fire and the need for BC Hydro personnel to respond. The intersection of Hopedale/South Sumas Road was blocked by Chilliwack firefighters due to the unspecified incident.

As of 9:35 p.m., the intersection of Hopedale and South Sumas is still blocked. Hydro personnel are on scene. A firefighter on scene said a vehicle did not strike a pole, when asked what happened.
