Abbotsford police body cam pilot project to end mid-December
ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford have given a small update on their pilot body cam project, roughly five months since its launch.
AbbyPD started wearing Axon body-worn cameras in May this year for a six-month initiative. Since then, the cameras have been worn on two of four patrol shifts, gathering “valuable data” that can inform their potential as a permanent program.
“The insights we’re collecting will help us assess the operational, legal, and community impacts of BWCs — including transparency, accountability, and officer safety,” said Chief Constable Colin Watson with the Abbtosford Police Department.
The pilot is set to conclude in mid-December, after which a formal recommendation will be presented to the Police Board ahead of the 2027 fiscal year budget planning cycle.
