G.W. Graham comes up just short in gritty battle vs. South Delta
CHILLIWACK — The GW Graham varsity Grizzlies faced a gritty South Delta Sun Devils squad last Friday night under the lights at Exhibition Stadium in Chilliwack, only to come just short in a 17-14 setback.
The visiting Sun Devils controlled the game tempo early, running 46 efficient plays in the first half and grabbing a 10-0 lead going into halftime. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies offence struggled to find its rhythm during the opening drives and was unable to convert key opportunities into points.
However, the Grizzlies came out of the locker room with renewed vigor. Their opening drive of the second half was capped by a hard-fought rushing touchdown from running back Denver Adam, who ended the night with 13 carries for 49 yards. Quarterback Lincoln Boyd held his own under pressure, completing 12-of-17 passes for 92 yards. His top targets were Ridley Mastin with five receptions for 23 yards and Cody Hagel, who hauled in four catches for 47 yards.
The turning point in the game came courtesy of Ridley Mastin—not only a contributor on offence, but a game-changer on defence and special teams. Mastin recorded an impressive 10 tackles and 4 sacks from the linebacker position, and electrified the home crowd with a 62-yard punt return touchdown, giving the Grizzlies a 14-10 lead in the third quarter. His all-around performance was a bright spot in a tightly contested matchup.
