FRASER VALLEY — The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit says it will hold two meetings this month to update the public on what’s happening with the Highway 1 improvements between Langley and Abbotsford.

On its website, the B.C. govt. says the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program will improve safety, reliability and capacity between 216 Street in Langley through to Chilliwack. The ministry states highway improvements will meet the needs of a growing region, improve travel and transit services for people in the Fraser Valley and facilitate efficient goods movement.

The work involves collaboration between the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, First Nations, municipal and regional governments, transportation agencies, and active transportation and goods movement interest holders to plan for the future of transportation for all users through and across the corridor.

To learn more about what’s happening, the ministry invites the public to drop by one of the upcoming community pop-ups:

Wednesday, October 8, 2025
4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Walnut Grove Community Centre, inside the foyer

Saturday, October 18, 2025
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In mid-August, traffic along Highway 1 westbound, from west of Mt. Lehman Road to west of 264 Street began moving to newly constructed lanes in the median. The reconfigured westbound off- and on-ramps at 264 Street connected to these new lanes.

In September, traffic along Highway 1 eastbound, from east of 264 Street to east of Mt. Lehman Road, moved to newly constructed lanes in the median and onto the new westbound Bradner overpass.

These changes are in addition to ongoing overnight lane closures and are needed for the continued safe construction of the 264 Street interchange, advancing the widening of Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley, the provincial government says.

In a social media post, the B.C. govt. says construction continues on widening and improvements to Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley.

Projects will enhance safety, reliability, and capacity to help meet the needs of this growing region.
