Highway 1 rollover in Abbotsford leads to impaired driving investigation

ABBOTSFORD — The 66-year-old man behind the wheel of a semi-truck is under investigation in connection with a rollover on Highway 1 Monday (Sept. 29) night in Abbotsford.
In a news release, Abbotsford Police say officers were alerted to the crash shortly after 8 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene near the Whatcom Road exit, they found the crash. Police say their initial investigation reveals the truck, which was travelling west, veered across the centre median and then into the oncoming eastbound lanes and overturned. No other vehicles were involved.
Police say the driver suffered minor injuries and was detained at the scene. He is suspected of driving while impaired. He was later taken to the hospital and has since been released from custody while the investigation continues.
Abbotsford Police are asking for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who may have seen the driving behaviour of the semi-truck prior to the crash. Information, including dashcam video, can be forwarded to the Abbotsford police at 604-859-5225.
