19-year-old Mission athlete heads to national Olympic talent search final
MISSION — A young BMX rider is racing from Mission to the stars after securing a spot as a finalist in RBC Training Ground– the Canadian Olympic Committee’s official talent search.
The 19-year-old Tristen Stacey joined over 2,500 athletes aged 14-25 in showcasing his speed, strength, power, and endurance in front of Olympic talent scouts.
“I started racing when I was 9 years old and loved the sport ever since,” said Stacey in his USA BMX bio.
He has now made it to the top 100 athletes deemed to have “great Olympic potential”, out of which 35 will earn funding for their craft, a spot in a national sport development program and an accelerated path to the Olympics.
