AGASSIZ — The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says an inmate has been assaulted over the past weekend at a maximum-security federal prison in Agassiz.

On Saturday, September 20, staff at Kent Institution took an injured inmate to an outside hospital after an altercation with multiple assailants. No staff or other inmates were injured.

Agassiz RCMP and the institution are now investigating the incident.

The inmate has since returned to the institution, and appropriate actions have been taken towards the suspects.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” said the CSC.

“In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures.”
