ERT deployed due to mental health call in Abbotsford home
ABBOTSFORD — Residents may have heard a barrage of sirens speeding down Abbotsford roads after several police detachments responded to a mental health call Friday afternoon (Sep. 19).
Witnesses on social media described seeing flashing police cars and at least one armoured vehicle heading towards Abbotsford from shortly after 4:00 until about 4:30 p.m.
Emergency Response Teams came in from both west on Highway 1 and east along Whatcom Road, from Chilliwack.
The Abbotsford Police Department told Fraser Valley Today the incident was “an isolated mental health-related call involving a single person who armed themselves with a weapon”.
