Substance-use recovery hubs open in Abbotsford, Hope

FRASER VALLEY — Fraser Valley residents who face substance-use challenges may soon be able to get the help they need with the opening of two new recovery centres in Abbotsford and Hope.

The Abbotsford and Hope Junctions are the first of their kind in the Fraser Health region, offering a low-barrier recovery space for individuals aged 19 and up through social connection and skill-building opportunities.

“Recovery looks different for everyone, and it doesn’t stop when formal treatment ends,” said Josie Osborne, minister of health.

“The new Junction recovery community centres are providing welcoming, supportive spaces that help people in B.C. stay connected to recovery services.”

Programming includes one-on-one and group support from staff ranging from recovery navigators and advocates to peer-support workers and cultural-safety advisers.

“It’s an honour to be part of such a forward and inspiring program, bridging the gap for folks in their wellness and recovery journey,” said Lex Marshall, peer-support worker at the Abbotsford Junction.

Fraser Health operates the Abbotsford Junction at 102-32463 Simon Avenue, while the non-profit Cedar Strong Prevention + Intervention Society runs the Hope Junction at Unit C, 895 3rd Avenue.

“Hope Junction offers vital recovery resources and meaningful connections for residents of Hope and the Fraser Canyon,” said Allison Paterson, program manager at Cedar Strong.

“Through innovative programming and a compassionate approach, they empower individuals on their journey towards healing and community.”

Data from the BC Coroners Service shows 38 people have died from unregulated drug use in Abbotsford as of June this year. There have been two such deaths in Hope as of April.
