MAPLE RIDGE — The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now naming the victim of a fatal shooting in Maple Ridge last month.

On August 13 at around 12:22 a.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to the report of a shooting near 246 Street and 124 Avenue, and found an unresponsive victim inside a car with apparent gunshot wounds in the 24000-block of Dewdney Trunk Road.

The man did not survive.

IHIT is now identifying the deceased as 24-year-old Maple Ridge resident Austin Baillie.

“Our team is pursuing all investigative avenues while following the evidence to understand the circumstances of the shooting and homicide of Mr. Baillie,” says Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi of IHIT.

“Investigators are looking to speak with those who knew Mr. Baillie and may have information related to this homicide.”

Initial findings suggest this was a targeted incident, and homicide investigators are now looking for more information about a car that could be connected to the shooting.

Anyone who may have information about a newer-model white Nissan Rogue or those who have dash camera or CCTV footage from August 12 at 11:00 p.m. and August 13 at 1:00 a.m. in the following two areas, is asked to contact IHIT:
