CHILLIWACK — A mall jewelry franchise in the Cottonwood Centre mall known for its ear piercing services and fashion accessories has closed its doors for good.

Claire’s, a multinational chain with stores in Canada and the U.S., closed its Chilliwack location at 45585 Luckakuck Way this past Sunday, Sept. 7.

According to a PR Newswire statement dated August 6, 2025, Claire’s Holdings LLC and certain U.S. and Gibraltar-based subsidiaries (collectively “Claire’s U.S.”), the operator of Claire’s and ICING stores across the United States, announced that it has commenced voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware to maximize the value of its business. Its Canadian affiliate operating stores across Canada (“Claire’s Canada”, and together with Claire’s US, “Claire’s” or the “Company”) also intended to initiate proceedings in Canada under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) (“Canadian Court”).

Fraser Valley Today has learned that five people who worked at the Chilliwack store will lose their jobs.

A message affixed to the nearly empty retail storefront thanked customers for their loyal patronage.

“We have closed our doors for the final time. Thank-you all for the beautiful memories. We will miss you all!”

The Abbotsford Claire’s at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre (32900 South Fraser Way) remains open for the time being.

Mark Davis, general manager for leasing company Warrington PCI, which manages Cottonwood Centre mall, said there’s a potential buyer for a few Claire’s retail stores, but Cottonwood Centre’s location was not one of them.

Davis added that he has a potential temporary tenant coming for Christmas to fill Claire’s, but a deal hasn’t been finalized just yet.
