Patient airlifted after traumatic injury over the weekend near Cultus Lake

CULTUS LAKE — A patient was airlifted to hospital in serious condition after suffering a traumatic injury over the weekend near Cultus Lake.

According to scanner traffic via Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, Cultus Lake Fire Department personnel were paged to attend to a traumatic injury on Columbia Valley Highway shortly after 1 a.m. early Saturday, Sept. 6.

B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics requested that a landing zone be established at Cultus Lake Community School.

A B.C. Emergency Services air ambulance landed at approximately 2:12 a.m., and departed for an undisclosed hospital at about 2:50 a.m., Hiscock said.

A B.C. EHS spokesperson released a statement about the incident in response to an inquiry from Fraser Valley Today.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 1:11 a.m. on September 6 regarding a person in need of medical care on
the 3400 block of Columbia Valley Road in Cultus Lake,” Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites said. “An ambulance with primary care paramedics and an ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported by ground ambulance to a landing zone at Cultus Lake Elementary School where they were met by an air ambulance helicopter. The patient was transported on to further medical care via air ambulance in serious condition under the care of critical care paramedics.”

It’s not immediately known what preceded the traumatic injury. Fraser Valley Today has reached out to the Chilliwack RCMP for additional information.
