Human remains now confirmed as missing 43-year-old woman

MAPLE RIDGE — Homicide investigators in B.C. have have now confirmed that human remains found in Maple Ridge are those of a 43-year-old woman who was reported missing earlier this year.

Ridge Meadows RCMP attended the 22800 block of Gillis Place on Tuesday, August 26 to gather information connected to the disappearance of Jessica Cunningham.

Since that date, IHIT detectives have worked alongside Ridge Meadows RCMP members, IFIS personnel and the B.C. Coroners Service to advance the investigation.

At this time, IHIT can confirm that the human remains located in the 22800 block of Gillis Place were those of 43-year-old Jessica Cunningham.

“Investigators continue to work to understand the circumstances that led to Jessica’s death,” says Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi, IHIT MRO. “Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones.

On Wednesday, August 27, the BC Prosecution Service laid a charge of indignity to human remains against Mylie Barron in relation to this investigation. At this time, he remains in custody.

Based on initial information, Cunningham was last seen in June 2025. She was reported missing in July 2025 and the Ridge Meadows RCMP began a missing persons investigation and have been actively working to locate her.

IHIT is responsible for investigating homicides, suspicious deaths, and high-risk missing persons where criminality is suspected.
