ABBOTSFORD-SUMAS — First responders from the Fraser Valley and Canada will gather in solidarity with their American counterparts this coming week to solemnly remember the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The Sumas Historical Society and Museum says American and Canadian border, police and fire departments are set to come together this Thursday, September 11 to remember and honour the lives lost during the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and elsewhere in the U.S.

The historical society says 37 Washington State residents and 24 Canadian citizens died in the attacks.

The ceremony will take place at the Sumas and Abbotsford Border Crossing, beginning at 5:30 a.m. The first wreath will be placed 5:46 a.m., or 8:46 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, the time when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.
