COQUIHALLA HIGHWAY — Thanks to lower fire behaviour, the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has been able to accurately measure the size of the Mine Creek wildfire, which is now more than double what it was on Thursday (Sep. 4).

In an update Saturday (Sep. 6), BCWS said trapped smoke from the fire helped settle the growing blaze and gave officials better visibility over the past few days.

The fire is now observed at 4,100 hectares, although behaviour remains at a rank 2 or 3 – a low to moderate surface fire.

“This fire which was previously burning in steep, inaccessible terrain,” said BCWS. “With the fire burning in workable ground, BC Wildfire Service crews are establishing control lines along the northern flank of the fire.”
