LANGLEY — Homicide investigators are now looking into a fatal shooting in Langley Friday night (Sep. 5).

At around 10:28 p.m., Langley RCMP responded to reports of a shooting near 200 Street and 53 Avenue. The victim was inside a taxi, and there were no other reports of injuries.

“Frontline officers arrived promptly, located the victim and initiated lifesaving measures. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to their injures at the scene,” said Sergeant Zynal Sharoom with the Langley RCMP.

Investigation has since centred around the 20200 block of 53A Avenue as a result.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now working with the RCMP and other policing partners to process the scene and collect evidence.

Police are trying to identify the deceased and see if there are any connections to the B.C. gang conflict, but it is still too early to give additional details about the victim and motive.

Anyone who may have dash cam footage or was in the area of the 20200 block of 53A Avenue between 9:00 p.m. and 11 p.m. on September 5 is asked to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
