Air quality warning in place for Fraser Valley

CHILLIWACK — Wildfire smoke is making breathing difficult for many people across the Fraser Valley and the B.C. Lower Mainland. The situation has led to the declaration of an Air Quality Warning by the Metro Vancouver Regional District (MVRD).

In a statement, the MVRD says the Fraser Valley is among the regions experiencing hazy conditions due to wildfire smoke. Wildfires east of Hope, near Whistler, in the B.C. Cariboo region and the state of Washington is behind the problem.

It expects the warning will remain for a few days unless there is a change in weather patterns across the region.

The warning suggests the limiting of outdoor activities, especially for people at risk. If the activities can’t be avoided, residents should take frequent breaks.
