Fraser Health issues toxic drug advisory across region

CHILLIWACK — Health authorities are warning residents about an increasing number of drug poisoning events in the Fraser Valley Friday (Aug. 29).

Fraser Health suggested that the toxic drug incidents over the past week are related to carfentanil re-emerging in the provincial drug supply.

“Friends, family, and community members using unregulated substances may face increased harms of unknowingly taking different substances than intended,” wrote Fraser Health.

The synthetic opioid is 50 to 100 times stronger than fentanyl, and veterinarians mainly use it for treating large animals.
