UPDATE 11:54 A.M.: Highway 1 at Agassiz to Bridal Falls Highway 9 has now reopened to all west and eastbound traffic.

“As we head into this long weekend, the Chilliwack, Agassiz, Hope and Boston Bar RCMP remind everyone to slow down and pay extra attention on the roads. There will be increased traffic on all roads and we want everyone to have a safe and fun long weekend,” said UFVRD RCMP.

The original story follows:

CHILLIWACK — Traffic is facing heavy delays along Highway 1 Friday (Aug. 29) after an incident involving a semi truck east of Annis Road, near Chilliwack and Bridal Falls.

Shortly before 7 a.m., the big rig struck the barrier on the westbound lane, causing the concrete to shift over into the eastbound lane, which in turn led to another car hitting the debris.

Police report that minor injuries are involved.

A nearby motorist, Tina Perrault, said the semi then continued down the highway for about another hundred metres before being jackknifed across both westbound lanes.

“Emergency crews are on scene. Drivers are asked to avoid the area, expect delays, and use alternate routes where possible. All westbound traffic will have to take the Highway # 9 exit into Rosedale / Agassiz. Highway # 1 eastbound traffic has been opened up, but it will be slow through this area,” said the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP.

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as responders work to clear the scene safely.”

Updates will be provided as they become available.
