District of Hope to elevate RCMP, bylaw presence – like Chilliwack

HOPE — In a program that mirrors what local Mounties are doing in Chilliwack, the District of Hope plans to elevate the presence of local RCMP members and bylaw officers toward improved public safety.

In a community safety update released Monday (Aug. 25), the district says its bylaw officers and local RCMP members are working together throughout Hope to ensure community safety and uphold local regulations.

“Their joint presence means increased visibility in our community, stronger enforcement of bylaws and regulations, [and] coordinated responses to concerns as they arise,” the district wrote.

Earlier this year, Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove referenced a public safety initiative, dubbed Project S.A.F.E. (Strategic Action for Focussed Engagement), that would see more RCMP members in the downtown area and surrounding areas. It involves RCMP members working hand in hand with Griffin Security and bylaw personnel from the City of Chilliwack.

“It’s gonna pinpoint areas of our downtown and surrounding areas and show a whole lot more engagement. It’s not perception, it’s real,” Mayor Popove said in June 2025. “They are going to be there. It’s gonna be a strategy that’s gonna be ongoing. It’s not just a blitz like we have done.”

“Our shared goal: support vulnerable populations, reduce safety concerns, and increase visibility in areas that need it most,” Chilliwack RCMP said in a social media post.

For residents of Hope, the district says it values community safety and compliance with local ordinances.

“The message is clear: public safety and bylaw compliance are priorities. We ask all residents and visitors to treat our officers with respect as they carry out their duties to keep Hope safe, orderly, and welcoming,” the district said.
