SURREY — Following two separate incidents of gunfire directed at a Surrey business within the span of a month earlier this summer, police in Surrey are investigating yet another incident of shots fired.

According to a statement from Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, police in Surrey were dispatched Monday morning (Aug. 25) for the report of mischief or attempted break-in at a business in the 12800 block of 80 Avenue in Surrey. When officers arrived, they learned that the damage to the business’ entrance was attributed to several shots being fired at the door from outside. SPS personnel checked the business and adjacent business and concluded no injuries had occurred.

Police believe the shooting happened sometime between Saturday, Aug. 23 and Monday morning.

Surrey Police Service’s Frontline Investigative Support (FLIS) Team has assumed conduct of the investigation. Officers remain on scene examining and securing evidence and will likely be canvassing the neighbourhood for any CCTV footage. Police detectives suspect the motive may be related to extortion in the preliminary stages of the investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident or anyone who may have been in the area over the weekend and has dashcam or CCTV footage is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-72804 (SP) or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.

In early August, Surrey police said a restaurant in B.C.’s Fraser Valley linked to a prominent Indian comedian was shot at for the second time within a month. At the time, police said the latest attack on Kap’s Cafe, linked to comic and television host Kapil Sharma, was the site of another overnight shooting almost one month ago, in which a gunman opened fire from inside a vehicle with a handgun.
