MISSION — Mounties in Mission say a 60-year-old motorcyclist from Mission is in critical condition Sunday after a serious crash in which the driver of a passenger sedan made a U-turn on a busy street in Mission prior to the motor vehicle incident.

According to a social media post from police, Mission RCMP members and other first responders were dispatched for a motor vehicle incident involving a motorcycle on Hurd Street in Mission Sunday at about 1:30 p.m. The accident happened near Sandpiper Place.

Preliminary police findings suggest that the driver of a white 2017 Ford Focus made a U-turn on Hurd Street when a motorcyclist travelling in the same direction struck the Ford Focus. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services Unit and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services attended to investigate the crash. Police estimated Hurd Street between Sandpiper Place and Van Velzen Ave. would remain closed throughout most of the day.
