ABBOTSFORD — A local educator has been recognized by the BC Landscape & Nursery Association (BCLNA) for his work in teaching both industry and community members about the value of gardening.

Jeff O’Brien, founder of Brands in Blooms, has received this year’s 2025 Educator of the Year award.

“This award means so much to me because it represents the community I love serving,” said O’Brien.

“At 40, with the unwavering support and sacrifice of my wife, three kids, and my business partner, I stepped into entrepreneurship to give everything I have to garden centres. I share this honour with them and with every garden centre owner who works tirelessly so others can discover the joy of plants and the magic of gardening.”

O’Brien has had a deep interest in education throughout his career, with his MBA dissertation on consumer behaviour in independent garden centre channels inspiring the launch of his own brand.

Brands in Blooms, together with Next-Gen Masterclass, has since helped more than 300 garden centers across North America attract and retain the next generation of gardeners.

The award will be presented during the BCLNA Garden Party & Member Awards on September 11, 2025, at Locality Brewing in Langley.
