CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Fire Department quickly stamped out an apartment blaze Friday night (Aug. 22).

At around 7:15 p.m., 17 firefighters from Halls 1 and 4 responded to reports of smoke from a ground-floor apartment unit in the 9100 block of Mary Street.

Initial searches confirmed everyone had evacuated from the unit at the time.

Crews then tackled the fire from the inside and contained it to its area of origin.

Residents reported that the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of the fire crews’ arrival.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or the public.

The cause of the fire is deemed accidental.

“The Chilliwack Fire Department would like to remind all residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms,” said Chilliwack Fire.
