CHILLIWACK — A contractor tasked with maintaining provincial highways in the Fraser Valley, Fraser Canyon and Sunshine Valley says it will undertake cable fence repairs on Highway 1 in Chilliwack Wednesday morning.

According to a social media post, Emil Anderson Maintenance says there will be fast lane closures in both eastbound and westbound lanes on Highway 1 between Young Road and Annis Road starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The cable fencing repairs are expected to last until 11:30 a.m.

Motorists should expect delays and drive with caution.

Emil Anderson Maintenance maintains highways and roads in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Hope, Agassiz, the Fraser Canyon, and Highway 3 southeast of Hope in what’s known as service area 7.

Highway 1 has had its share of high-profile vehicle incidents over the past week.

Last Thursday, August 14, a sem truck reportedly hit the centre median and dragged cables across the road.

By Saturday morning, August 16, DriveBC said cable installation repair work between Prest and Annis Road had blocked the left lane.

However, there were two more vehicle incidents through the same stretch of Highway 1 on Sunday, including a fatal rollover that claimed the life of a 74-year-old woman from Agassiz, and a vehicle that rolled over into the centre median and onto cable fencing.
