CHILLIWACK — Nearly two dozen firefighters were dispatched Monday morning for the report of a structure fire at a home on Williams Road in Fairfield Island.

According to a statement from Chilliwack Assistant Fire Chief Wade Meeres, fire crews were paged for a fire at 8:10 a.m. Approximately 22 responding firefighters from Halls 1 and 4 witnessed smoke coming from the basement of a single-family home. The statement from the fire department indicated the fire happened in the 10100 block of Williams Street, but Google Maps indicates the proper name is Williams Road.

Meeres says firefighters promptly initiated an offensive interior attack, containing the fire to its area of origin. A primary search confirmed all occupants had safely evacuated.

A fire prevention technician was on scene at the home between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday morning.
