UPDATE: Bear Creek fire east of Harrison Lake now being held

Aug 9, 2025 | 11:35 AM

UPDATE, 4:25 P.M. SUNDAY: The BC Wildfire Service now says the 224-ha Bear Creek wildfire east of Harrison Lake is being held, meaning the fire is expected to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary.

According to an update dated Sunday, August 10, BCWS said the fire behaviour is mainly Rank 1, a smouldering ground fire with no open flame. Ground crews had continued pushing a containment line upslope to check fire growth on the north flank.

Heavy equipment had been supporting fire crews by establishing safe access for crews in the northeast quadrant, and extending a contingency guard.

Original story from Saturday morning at 11:35 a.m.:

HARRISON LAKE — BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) crews are keeping up the fight against a wildfire that flared up last week.

The Bear Creek wildfire, located east of Harrison Lake, has grown to 224 hectares since it was first discovered on July 29.

Rain and cooler temperatures have helped firefighting efforts in the past week, bringing the blaze back down to a smouldering ground fire with no open flame. Despite this, an evacuation alert remains for the North Cascade Bay area.

“If you are a property owner with a recreational site, you are being asked to reduce your use of the road or avoid the area entirely,” wrote the Fraser Valley Regional District. “If you are a local resident and must be in the area, drive slowly, be calm and patient.”

BCWS is also asking boaters to keep away from nearby lakes where firefighting aircraft collect water from.

Forty-two firefighters, five helicopters and three pieces of heavy equipment have been deployed to the site, along with danger tree fallers, medics and security personnel.

The alert will remain in place until the wildfire status changes to “being held”.
