CHILLIWACK — It’s hard to shake Chilliwack’s title as having the highest crime rate in all of Canada when drug dealers carrying pepper spray and knives are using electric scooters to distribute illicit drugs across the city.

Gang detectives from a B.C.-wide special task force who were conducting strategic enforcement in Chilliwack in July say they have arrested an individual who was riding a scooter and trafficking illegal drugs.

According to a social media post from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, officers seized suspected drugs packaged for street level sale which included 31 grams of fentanyl, 6.4 grams of dilaudid pills, and 14.3 grams of crack cocaine.

The person, who was not identified, also had a folding knife, scale, bear spray, and a lighter shaped like a firearm and cash.

“Who needs a car for Dial-a-Dope when you have a scooter?” CFSEU-B.C. wrote in its social media post.

CFSEU-BC is the largest integrated police program in Canada, made up of members from every police department in British Columbia, including the RCMP.

As Fraser Valley Today reported last month, Chilliwack has seen a substantial drop in its violent crime rate year over year, but still has the highest reported crime rate of any census metropolitan area in Canada.

According to new numbers released by Statistics Canada, police reported 11,352 crimes per 100,000 population in Chilliwack in 2024, the highest number reported of any census metropolitan area in Canada.
