Update: Highway 1 finally clear after big rig jackknifes 13 kms east of Chilliwack

UPDATE 5:35 P.M. WEDNESDAY: Highway 1 w/b near Herrling Island is finally clear after the big rig crashed.

UPDATE, 3:25 P.M. WEDNESDAY: One lane of w/b Hwy. 1 roughly 13 kms east of Chilliwack remains blocked, roughly three hours after a tractor trailer jackknifed. Like DriveBC said at 12:44 p.m. today, motorists should expect delays due to congestion.

HERRLING ISLAND — A tractor trailer has crashed on Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Hope Wednesday afternoon, causing extensive delays to traffic in one direction.

DriveBC posted on X/Twitter at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday that a vehicle incident happened westbound near Herrling Island. Motorists should expect delays.

Pictures posted on social media by Skilled Truckers Canada depict a big rig whose front tires jumped the concrete barriers in the shoulder lane.

Roads have been slick throughout the Fraser Valley Wednesday morning due to several hours of rain showers.

Google Maps traffic shows dark red for several kilometers.
