UPDATE 11:19 A.M.: Langley RCMP has confirmed the death of one motorcyclist after the serious collision Sunday night (Aug. 3).

Despite the quick response from BCEHS and Township of Langley Fire crews, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life,” said Sergeant Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP.

The Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) supported BC Highway Patrol and the Langley RCMP in the investigation.

The original story follows:

LANGLEY — Police blocked off a section of Highway 1 in Langley after a serious collision Sunday night (Aug. 3).

At roughly 8:22 p.m., Langley RCMP responded to a report of the incident located near the 25300 block of Highway 1.

“The westbound lanes of Highway 1 are closed and traffic is being redirected at the 264 Street exit,” said Sergeant Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP.

“We are in the very early stages of the investigation therefore are asking motorists to avoid the area and find alternate routes as the closure could last several hours.”

Drivers were being asked to find alternate routes and respect the ongoing investigation by not stopping near the scene.

The road did not reopen for another seven hours– at around 3:30 a.m.

The RCMP remain tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding the incident, but multiple motorists on social media reported that it involved a motorcycle possibly travelling at high speeds.

Some witnesses say a biker had been weaving in and out of traffic only minutes before the accident. A motorcycle had also been lying on its side by the road.

Anyone in the area at the time of the collision, especially those with dash cam footage, is asked to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 and quote file number 2025-25251.
