CHILLIWACK — Mounties in Chilliwack announced Tuesday that a new youth and child advocacy centre will open later this year in downtown Chilliwack.

According to a statement from Chilliwack RCMP Corporal Carmen Kiener, who works as a supervisor in the Serious Crime Unit, the opening of the Chilliwack Child and Youth Advocacy Centre at 46187 Yale Road in downtown Chilliwack has been a project five years in the making with Chilliwack Community Services.

Cpl. Kiener says the youth advocacy centre represents a collaboration between the RCMP, child protection personnel and victim advocates in a child-friendly facility where children, youth and their families and caregivers can receive an individualized response and services after the occurrence of child abuse.

Services provided include prevention, intervention, prosecution, treatment and support for victims and their families. It is intended to minimize the system-induced trauma and support longer-term well-being by providing a child-friendly facility for young victims and their families.
