Semi flips, spills truckload of lumber on Highway 1 in Yale
YALE — A portion of Highway 1 had been closed down for several hours late Friday night (July 18) after a semi rolled over, spilling a truckload of lumber on the road near Yale.
At around 11 p.m., DriveBC asked drivers to expect delays in both directions as crews were on scene for a vehicle incident near the Yale Garry Oak Ecological Reserve.
Witnesses say a lumber truck carrying a full load of 2×8 lumber turned on a sharp corner heading westbound after Yale Tunnel– and flipped. It also collided with another vehicle with three occupants head-on in the process.
“[We’re] battered up definitely,” one of the victims, who wished to remain anonymous due to the ongoing investigation, told Fraser Valley Today.
