LANGLEY — A standoff in Langley that began after reports of a gunshot within a residence ended safely Monday night (Jul. 14).

Langley RCMP say officers were called out around 1:15 p.m. to a home in the 26400 block of 29B Avenue. Given the risk to public safety, the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) was called in. Police contained the area and began negotiations with the suspect, resulting in a standoff that lasted several hours.

During the incident, the suspect fired a shot at a police-operated drone.

Following hours of negotiations, the situation was resolved around 8:30 p.m., when the man was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to hospital for assessment.

“This was a dynamic and potentially dangerous situation, but thanks to the professionalism and patience of our responding officers and the coordinated efforts of the Integrated Emergency Response Team, it was brought to a safe conclusion,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of Langley RCMP.

No injuries were reported. Police say the investigation is ongoing and a search warrant is being executed at the home.
