CHILLIWACK — A small wildfire ignited in the Chilliwack River Valley Saturday evening, but firefighters have reportedly knocked down the fire.

According to the B.C. Wildfire Service online dashboard, the fire is located just west of Post Creek, a small subdivision about a kilometer west of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park.

It is about 0.009 hectares in size. For context, as per Doug Warnke in the Chilliwack Scanner Facebook group, the fire is about 20 feet by 100 feet.

The Coastal Fire Centre has been notified. Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 6:11 p.m. for the wildfire.

Linda Koskinen wrote on Facebook at 7:08 p.m. Saturday evening that helicopters had arrived in the area to battle the fire. She later reported at 7:37 p.m. that the fire has been knocked down.

“Fire fighters have it out now. They got it out from the other side of river from the homes,” Koskinen said. “They are still over there and will make sure it stays out.”
