Suspect arrested in Second Avenue incident Saturday, while man stabbed in separate incident Sunday night: RCMP

UPDATE: Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Teresa Parsons has confirmed that one person was arrested in connection with a police incident on Second Avenue in Chilliwack Saturday evening, while a male was hospitalized after a stabbing Sunday night on Yale Road. The two incidents are not connected to one another.

Police responded to a person with injuries on Saturday evening, in connection with a possible stabbing in the 46000 block of Second Avenue.

“That person received treatment in hospital and the injuries were non-life threatening,” Corporal Parsons said.

A suspect was identified and arrested, the two were known to each other and there is no indication of any risk to the public, Corporal Parsons said.

Late Sunday night, as per scanner traffic, Chilliwack Fire Dept. and B.C. EHS personnel were paged about a stabbing at Tim Hortons at 46345 Yale Road in Chilliwack. Similar to the Saturday night incident, firefighters and paramedics were advised to wait for police. By 12:22 a.m., firefighters were advised to stand down as the scene was left in care of RCMP and B.C. EHS personnel.

Corporal Teresa Parsons has confirmed to Fraser Valley Today that Chilliwack RCMP officers attended Yale Road late Sunday night.

“The Chilliwack RCMP did respond to a report of a male with injuries consistent with a stabbing,” Corporal Parsons said via email. “The male was transported to hospital and received treatment, the injuries are not life threatening. The matter is still under investigation but it is believed that the suspect was known to the victim and there is no risk to the general public. There is no indication this incident was related to the previous one from Saturday.”

CHILLIWACK — B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics, Chilliwack Fire Department crews and Chilliwack RCMP members were dispatched for the report of two possible stabbings over the weekend.

The first incident involved a reported stabbing in the 46000 block of Second Avenue in Chilliwack Saturday evening, just east of a multi-storey housing complex.

Chilliwack first responders were first paged at about 6:53 p.m. Saturday evening. According to scanner traffic, both BCAS paramedics and Chilliwack firefighters were advised by emergency dispatch that the call was a “wait for the fives,” referring to police.

When a single Chilliwack Fire Department engine arrived on scene, firefighters radioed dispatch to say there was one B.C. Ambulance on scene and three RCMP units on scene, as depicted in the picture accompanying this story.

Firefighters later radioed dispatch to say the scene was left in care of RCMP members.

Kaur Pawan wrote on Facebook about the incident: “I heard a lot of sirens on First Avenue. Something was definitely going on. I saw ambulances and several police cars heading toward Second Avenue. A police officer even arrested someone just behind the Esso station.”

A Facebook post that appeared in the Chilliwack Beware! group about the incident has since been deleted or removed.

The second incident involved a possible stabbing just before midnight at the Tim Hortons at Yale Road and Williams Road. Firefighters and paramedics were advised to wait for police. Chilliwack firefighters were cleared from the scene at 12:22 a.m. as the scene was left in care of RCMP and B.C. EHS.
