CHILLIWACK — SD33 Superintendent Rohan Arul-pragasam touched on a number of themes in his year-end message to parents, including student success, but not a deep dive into academic achievement or scholastic excellence.

According to the text of a message sent to parents via email Friday morning, Arul-pragasam said the 2024-25 school year ushered in a significant milestone in what he called “our shared journey” as the district initiated a comprehensive review of its Strategic Plan.

“Your thoughtful engagement in this process has helped shape a bold and purposeful vision for the future of education in Chilliwack,” Arul-pragasam said. “From November 2024 to April 2025, students, staff, parents, guardians, caregivers, Elders, Indigenous communities, and district and community partners participated in meaningful engagement sessions that informed our revised Strategic Plan,” he said.

With nearly 8,600 thoughts shared, Arul-pragasam said public input helped identify the key priorities that will guide its work from 2025 to 2029, including student success, human flourishing, truth and reconciliation, and accountability.

“As we conclude the 2024–25 school year, I wish to extend my gratitude to the families of Chilliwack for your unwavering support of students throughout the academic year,” he said. “Together, we continue to foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where all learners can thrive. As our community continues to grow, I am deeply appreciative of the strong relationships we have built with families—relationships that form the foundation of a vibrant and connected district culture.”

Arul-pragasam reaffirmed what he called “our shared values” – inclusion, equity, kindness, collaboration and innovation – and said the new Strategic Plan reflects the district’s collective purpose.

“Honouring, Shaping, and Inspiring our Past, Present, and Future,” he said. “Inspired by the teachings of Tómiyeqw, we are reminded that the decisions we make today carry meaning for generations before and beyond us. This perspective continues to ground us in care, responsibility, and collective growth.”

The final version of the Draft 2025–2029 Strategic Plan will be presented for approval at the Chilliwack Board of Education meeting next Monday, June 30. If approved, the district will move into the implementation phase, supported by annual operational planning and a district-wide communication strategy to ensure shared understanding and alignment across all sites.
