Portions of Chilliwack rec centres to close part of the summer

CHILLIWACK — YMCA BC, the company that runs two rec centres in the City of Chilliwack, says sections of the Cheam Leisure Centre and Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre will be closed during the summer.

The weight room at the Cheam Leisure Centre in Garrison will be closed for three weeks from August 8 to August 29 due to scheduled renovations. In a social media post dated June 13, YMCA BC says the renovation will occur during a time when most people won’t be using the facility.

“We’ve scheduled this during our slowest time of the year to minimize impact,” YMCA BC said. “Remember, your membership is valid at the Chilliwack Landing location, too! Thank you for your patience as we improve your workout space.”

YMCA BC also says the entire aquatic area at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre will be closed from July 28 to August 29 for scheduled summer maintenance. That includes all pools and a hot tub at the facility.

“Thanks for your understanding as we keep things safe, clean and running smoothly!” YMCA BC wrote online.

YMCA BC reminds people who want to go swimming that their membership can be used at the Cheam Leisure Centre or Rotary Outdoor Pool.

Oddly enough, the Rotary Outdoor Pool was closed on Saturday, June 14 due to a staffing shortage.
